A Mom's Perspective
Why Children's needs a Family Amenities Area

Unless you have actually handed your child off to a nurse to be taken into surgery, it is difficult to completely comprehend the overwhelming feeling of helplessness. My daughter, Brigid Hope, had heart surgery the day before she turned three months old. She was in the Intensive Care Unit for ten days. I did not leave the hospital the entire time.  The Children's Hospital has an astounding group of nurses, doctors, surgeons and staff to make this surreal time in a family's life more bearable.

The hospital is currently only able to guarantee parents of children in one of its four critical care units a sleep room for their first two nights. Children's staff did the best they could with the space they had, but it was a scramble every day to find a place for us to stay. When your daughter is lying in the Intensive Care Unit with her chest open, the last thing you want to be doing is waiting in line for a sleep room.
One Family's Story - Meet Brigid
The Family Amenities Area for the new hospital is the perfect place to focus funds from Highrollers with Heart. This area will enable parents like me and my husband to focus on meeting with doctors, keeping family and friends informed and, most importantly, sitting by our child's bedside!   Brigid will need to continue to have surgeries as she grows. The gift of being able to stay close to our child when she needs us the most is immeasurable.

The Children's Hospital in Denver offers unparalleled care for children and their families. The Family Amenities Area is an amazing idea to help them continue to do what they do best...care for our precious little ones.
